๐ Belt Tension Measurement Guide
Proper belt tension is critical for print quality. Too loose causes ringing/ghosting, too tight causes binding and bearing wear.
Measurement Method:
- Download frequency analyzer app (e.g., "Spectroid" on Android, "Sonic Tools" on iOS)
- Move print head to center of axis
- Pluck belt like a guitar string (perpendicular to belt)
- Note the fundamental frequency (lowest peak in app)
- Measure free belt length between pulleys with calipers
- Repeat for both X and Y axes
Target Frequencies (GT2 belts):
- 110 Hz: Ideal for most CoreXY printers
- 100-120 Hz: Safe range for good performance
- <90 Hz: Too loose, will cause ringing
- >140 Hz: Too tight, increases bearing wear
Adjustment Tips:
- Make small adjustments (1/4 turn at a time)
- Both belts should have similar tension
- Re-run input shaping calibration after adjusting
- Check tension monthly as belts stretch over time
